We are sad to say that Calisto passed away in January 2003....
Some time in January of 2000, Calisto suffered a severe injury where he apparently stepped in a hole.  The resulting injury was due to a severely bowed tendon with contraction and required stall rest for many weeks.

He is very underweight after many months on bed rest and refusal to eat.  He is on a special diet of Beat pulp mush, Equitech 14, rice bran, weight builder and must take Bute.

Calisto now walks with a distingue limp and he must wear a special shoe to assist in redirecting the weight on his leg.  His horse shoe has a toe extension on it which he must wear all the time.

Calisto is a Morgan / Clydesdale mix.  He is 21 years old.

Calisto is currently in separate pasture with an elderly fellow horse named Bubbie that also requires a special diet.

He is unable to be put with the other horses as his injury might be exacerbated by the younger horses wanting to play or by being picked on because he is unable to respond quickly.

Calisto was brought to Dream Catcher Farm Horse Sanctuary in October of 2001 after the farm was thoroughly checked out by a local vet and approved for the horse's retirement.  He came from a loving family in Maryland who did extensive searching of Rescue organizations before deciding on this horse sanctuary.

Before Calisto's unfortunate injury, he had been a school horse for 7-8 years for a loving guardian named Lori.

Calisto has put on some weight but these cold winter months will be particularly hard on him.  He needs constant nursing care, special foods and medication.

Your donations help to keep other horses healthy and retired at the Dream Catcher Farm Horse Sanctuary.  Please help to support "Calisto" and others like him in need of help.

REMEMBER:
Your donation can make a horse's dream come true!
