Dear Friends,
The Sanctuary continues to operate on a shoestring budget, utilizing
volunteers to assist with the upkeep of the pasture, fencing, grooming
and other maintenance. We still pay the
Ferrier to come out every quarter to trim the hooves of all the animals.
We are always very thankful for our volunteers time to assist with the
horse sanctuary!!!!!!

Right after Christmas, we had to have the Vet out as
Jake (the big saddle bred with the bad ears) had
developed an infection behind one ear. Boy that was a job! First the
Vet had to sedate him a bit to just be able to work with his ears and
around them, not to mention the twice daily application of medication we
had to do. He stayed in the yard for a few days so we were able to
treat him with medication, clean the wound and put on a topical
ointment. I truly think he liked the attention! But he sure did not
like us getting anywhere near his ears. If you remember, he is one that
has warts in his ears, and a previous owner took a razor to his ears and
cut them out without anything to numb them. His ears were an infected
bloody mess when we got him. Therefore he has always been very
protective of those ears. The warts had grown back, but the Vet advised
us years ago that they were better left alone unless he was a show
horse. We love him, warts and all!
All the other residents (7 horses, 3
donkeys and one pony) continue to do very well. All standing at the hay
rings munching hay all day and laying down in the sun. They are such a
beautiful sight to see. We are looking for another wonderful summer,
and hope for a bit more rain so there is good hay in the fall. Please
remember us in your thoughts and prayers. Your donations are
always so graciously appreciated to support the horse sacntuary!!
Love to all,
Catherine
